Frequently Asked Questions About Oil Changes
Oil changes are a part of life if you own a car. While oil changes are routine, and a little mundane, it is really important to get your oil changed regularly. If you aren’t sure where and when or even how oil changes happen, we have some information for you about oil changes.
Oil Change Information
Why do I need an oil change? Your car has to have clean oil to run properly. Oil lubricates your engine parts, and it prevents friction from building up in your engine, causing issues. As your oil gets older and dirtier, it doesn’t perform as well as it should. If you continue to drive without changing the oil, eventually your engine will break down. In most cases, you need to change your oil every 3000 to 5000 miles. You can check your owner’s manual for an exact number.
What happens during an oil change? During an oil change, all of your oil is drained out of your car. All that sludgy, dirty oil is replaced by beautiful, clean oil by the technician, and that will help keep your engine performing at an optimum level. Your technician will also replace your oil filter, so not only do you have clean oil, you have a clean oil filter as well. Your technician will also do a mini-inspection, which means they’ll check all of your fluid levels, tires, and battery. You may need additional services, but you’ll drive away with a perfectly performing car.
Do I have to use the same brand of oil each time? The brand of oil doesn’t really matter, but the viscosity does. If you change the viscosity oil type, the oil may not perform as well. Also, be sure you either go with conventional oil or synthetic each time you change your oil to keep your engine in great shape.
