Wiper Blades
If it’s sunny right now, you’re probably not thinking about your windshield wipers. The next time it rains, we bet you’re going to be thinking about it, especially if your wipers aren’t working the way they should. How long should wipers last? We have some tips for you to help you figure out if your wiper blades are in great shape, or if they need to be replaced.
Why Do I Need Wiper Blades?
A lot of people think that they will be able to see just fine without their windshield wipers. However, many times it is difficult to see out of your windshield without wipers. This is especially true if your windshield is fogged up and rain is continuing to fall. Windshield wipers make it easier for you to see, and that way, you will be safe on the road, and avoid accidents.
How Will I Know When My Wiper Blades Need to Be Replaced?
It is sometimes hard to figure out when you may need to replace your wiper blades. Many manufacturers suggest you replace your wiper blades every six months to every year. A lot of people replace their wiper blades every year on Groundhog Day, because it’s easy to remember.
If you aren’t sure that you can keep track of the exact day that you need to replace your wiper blades, there are other ways you’ll be able to tell it is time to replace those wipers. Wipers need to have good contact with the windshield in order to do their jobs well. When your wiper blades are worn down and not operating efficiently, they won’t make good contact with your windshield. You’ll begin to hear sounds coming from your windshield and wiper blades.
You may notice that your wipers are skipping over the surface of your windshield, instead of cleaning the surface. Your wipers might also streak or split. They may even chatter or squeak. The sounds your wipers make may tell you they are ready to be replaced.
There are other signs you can look for as well to figure out when wipers can be replaced. You might notice that your wipers are resting on a broken frame. You might also notice that your wipers are beginning to rust. You could see cracks or tears in the rubber part of your wipers. Are your windshield wipers flexible? If they seem reluctant to work properly, you may need to replace your wipers. Once you have them replaced, you’re ready for your next drive.
