Best Places To Camp Around Tampa, FL

Though Tampa Bay is known for its stunning white-sand beaches, lively night life, along with numerous other activities, there are host of campgrounds located around the lightning capital of the world that offer a first-hand look at the wonders of nature. Those wonders of nature include marshes, undisturbed beaches, and a diverse selection of wildlife, all of which have morphed Tampa Bay into a haven for campers looking for a weekend getaway under the stars. While out camping you can witness alligators lazily swim through the water, watch as herons fly by as you paddle, hike, or bike your way around. It is amazing what you can see when you step away from civilization and rough it out. If you are interested in camping, here are several of the top camping sites located throughout Tampa Bay.

Flamingo Pad

Located just miles from Mobbly Bay and close enough to Tampa Bay to still enjoy what the city has to offer, Flamingo Pad is simply a shaded area on private property that rents nightly. The costs are low, and the site is situated minutes from the beach, about 30 minutes to amusement parks, and is just a stone’s throw to Upper Tampa Bay State Park, where you can rent canoes and kayaks.

Tent campers are welcome to come between October 15 to May 31.

The site offers a secluded “old Florida” feel.

Vivacious Gardens RV Camping

Vivacious Gardens is a private RV site that sits on family land that is approximately two acres. It is located just 25 minutes to downtown Tampa. The property is surrounded by gardens and fruit trees. They also have goats, chickens, rabbits, and a play area. This RV site is more so used for community and interaction. It is not a romantic getaway.

Fort De Soto Park

Fort De Soto is one of Florida’s most popular parks. Located southwest of St. Petersburg and Tampa, Fort De Soto has pristine white beaches that face the Gulf of Mexico. While camping at the 238-acre campground, you can watch out for the more than 300 migratory birds that live on the island. From April to September, you can even spot loggerhead sea turtles, which use the islands to nest and lay eggs.
